DCA dosage

Page history last edited by Mouse Doc 14 years, 6 months ago
DCA dosage is measured in milligrams per kilogram of body weight (mg/Kg). The ideal dose is the minimum needed to produce a clinical response. (Caffeine with DCA may allow lower doses of DCA to be used). Larger doses of DCA increase the risk of adverse side effects like peripheral neuropathy and TLS and therefore more is not necessarily better. The amount of DCA taken for cancer treatment is smaller than the dose used in the earlier experiments with infant lactic acidosis and it is a dangerous mistake to rely on the acidosis research for dosing information.

Over time DCA limits its own metabolism. For this reason it is recommended to take regular time off DCA, allowing the drug and  metabolites to clear the blood plasma. Time off also helps minimize peripheral neuropathy. Higher doses will require longer intervals off the drug.

Electronic scales ensure that every dose is accurately measured. Scales accurate to increments of one hundredth (0.01) of a gram are adequate for this purpose.

For example:

The minimum effective dose is believed to be 10 milligrams of DCA per kilogram of body weight per day (10 mg/Kg/day) Divide your weight in pounds by 2.2 to obtain your weight in kilograms.

Suggested doses and intervals of time off DCA:

10 mg/Kg/day 5 days on, two days off
12 mg/Kg/day 5 days on, two days off
15 mg/Kg/day 4 days on, three days off

There is no time off for supplements, keep taking them seven days a week.
